Riccardo Vino at home commanding the stage

Riccardo Vino, the great Italian singer and musician who now lives in Berlin, has always had a burning passion for old tunes. He especially loved the vintage Italian and American songs from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, which produced some of the great long-lasting hits in pop music. Some of his favorite singers from those golden years are Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday representing America, and the Italian ones are Natalino Otto, Nilla Pizzi, Beniamino Gigli, among many others. Of course he also has a thing for the big bands of those times, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, etc.

Riccardo has a current project called Swing Al Dente, and it’s full of some of the best Italian and American songs of that great era. He has made each one of those classics his own by changing the presentation and tempo a bit and by adding a few retro vibes to top them off. All in all his show is incredibly unique and has the flavor of past decades along with Ricardo’s terrific interpretation of arguably some of the best music and lyrics ever written in the twentieth century, sung by what some people call one of the most beautifully expressive voices they’ve heard.

Riccardo grew up in Bologna, Italy and leaned to play the piano when he was only five years old. He also learned how to read sheet music before he could read Italian thanks to his grandmother. She would tell him stories about her husband, his grandfather, who was a very successful bandleader who died before Riccardo had a chance to meet him. Luckily for Ricardo that his grandmother saved all of her husband’s sheet music because they truly influenced Ricardo’s musical career.

He discovered them in a trunk one day and before long had read through each and every one like the prodigy he was. He had always been a singer who played the piano and the violin, (he took that up a few years after learning the piano), but after finding his grandfather’s precious musical scores from an era that he had already fallen in love with — there was no stopping him from creating his own unique brand of music that he would successfully take on tour throughout Europe.

Riccardo has other projects that he is working on and we can’t wait to see and hear them. Riccardo Vino is currently working together with a music label and a record studio based in Montréal on his first own album, a melody-driven collection of autobiographical songs for which he has written both lyrics and music.
