Renowned Cinematographer and Director Ajijul Hasan Surzo
Ajijul Hasan Surzo, an iconic director and cinematographer, has dedicated over eight years to the industry, demonstrating a profound commitment to the art of storytelling. His keen eye for detail and deep understanding of creativity allow him to craft compelling visual narratives from the inception of a film to its finalization. His ability to elevate the quality of every production, even in the smallest details, is a testament to his passion and skill.
Surzo began his career as an assistant director in Bangladeshi TV media in 2016, where he would hone skills for a lifetime. But since August 2017, Surzo has been a freelance director and cinematographer, directing and shooting numerous award-winning short films and documentaries. He can work with any writer, producer, and crew to realize many creative visions. His works involve award-winning films at the Films on SRHR and I-Lead-O-Scope film festival. To this end, narration proves his mettle by creating a bigger impact.
Surzo’s talent and dedication have been recognized at several prestigious film festivals. As a finalist at the International Children Film Festival, Dhaka 2017, and Frames Film Festival, his work has left a lasting impression. His honorable mention at the Atlanta Black Pride Film Festival and his selection in the Best Documentary and Humanity Ambassador category at the Dadashaheb Phale International Film Festival further underscore his impressive achievements. These accolades are not just a testament to his talent but also an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers.
Nonetheless, Surzo headed the Media Department at Hair Queen LA and OYO TV from July 2024 as the Manager. He ideated a digital content strategy for this Hollywood-based fashion company by creating, editing, and distributing content to ensure quality media output with the help of other departments.
From June 2023, Surzo worked as a Production Assistant at Universal Studios Hollywood, perfecting his time management, leadership, and teamwork. He was responsible for the safety of the sets regarding production protocols.
Surzo has done it all in cinematography! He has also been a Colorist at C&I Studios from May 2022 to February 2024. He led color correction and grading for multiple projects as a Colorist, working hand in hand with the directors to bring out the right mood and feeling onto the screens.
Surzo will complete a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles, by 2026. He has completed advanced cinematography and color grading courses at Los Angeles City College, where he earned certifications in camera operation, camera assistance, grip, and electric and advanced color grading with Davinci Resolve. He also trained in screenwriting and direction at the New York Film Academy. He took an undergraduate course in Media Science, majoring in filmmaking, at West Bengal University of Technology, India.
