Playing Favorites with Actress Sarah Cabrera
Welcome back to the “Playing Favorites” interview series where we find out what makes today’s best and brightest actors and actresses tick on and off camera. Today we sit down with British actress Sarah Cabrera. Sarah has been seen on stage and screen, and now she’s got an upcoming role voicing “Lola” the British Dog in the next season of the hit YouTube series “The High Meows”. Let’s see what Sarah’s got to say……
Playing Favorites: Sarah! Great to have you with us today! We know how passionate you are about your work, but we’re excited to get to know as many of your favorite things today that we can squeeze out of a quick chat. So, tell us, what was your favorite movie in 2024?
SC: So many great films to choose from last year!! Ok, so I’m always a fan of good romantic comedy and a good romantic drama, and “The Idea of You” from Amazon MGM Studios was a delightful mixture of both. The chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine was super steamy at times and the story was really moving in the end. I recently starred in a film myself on Amazon, “The Last Heist”, so I try to keep up with everything they put out.
Playing Favorites: “The Idea of You” was one of my favorite films last year, too!! Next up — I know you love going to the theater — what was your favorite stage performance in 2024?
SC: You’re right! My true love of performing was born in the theater. I saw a number of wonderful shows last year, but the best of the best was seeing the always amazing Sigourney Weaver’s West End debut as Prospero in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane. I have a soft spot for this theatre, as that’s where I had my own West End debut.
Playing Favorites: Sounds like an incredible show! Sigourney Weaver is tough to beat. Let’s shift gears a bit from the stage to the TV screen, what was your favorite TV series in the past year?
SC: Oh wow, there are so many great series these days, it’s a real challenge to choose just one! But, since we are playing favorites, I have to say the latest season of “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+ was a standout. Gary Oldman and the rest of the ensemble are so good! I hope this show never stops.
Playing Favorites: I know, right?! I’m already feeling impatient for Season 5 of “Slow Horses” to gallop on through! Sorry, couldn’t resist…anyway, so tell us, do you think your new role as “Lola” the British Dog in “The High Meows” will be a favorite role for you?
SC: I loved cartoons as a kid and, fun fact, I studied 3-D animation and character design, so I really am a fan of the world of animation. My favorite animated movie of 2024 was “The Wild Robot” — it was such a heart-warming and life affirming story. Voicing “Lola” will for sure be a favorite role for me. I’m thrilled to be joining the talented cast of “The High Meows” and I can’t wait to create a fun and loveable character with “Lola”. Without saying too much, she’s a sassy, well-traveled dog that loves to tell everyone about her world travels. Sounds just like me! I’m always on the go, with a bag always packed and ready for my next adventure. I think “Lola” and I are going to have an incredible journey together in 2025 and I can’t wait for it to start!
Playing Favorites: It sounds like you playing “Lola” was meant to be! This has been a blast talking to you today! Last question — what else are you looking forward to this year?
SC: Baseball season!!! I’ve grown in to being a legitimate Dodger fan and I cannot wait to cheer on the defending champion Dodgers and my favorite player Teoscar Hernandez (aka Mr. Seeds)!
Playing Favorites: Now that was a curve ball of an ending! Thanks so much to the vivacious Sarah Cabrera for joining us today for another round of Playing Favorites!! Good luck to Sarah in 2025!
