John Oates — one half of one of the most successful groups in music history ‘Hall & Oates’ was at The Grove in LA on Thursday, signing copies of his new book ‘Change of Seasons’- A Memoir with Chris Epting. The book details John’s influences in music — growing up in a small Pennsylvania town, his first introduction to the music industry and a memorable first encounter with Daryl Hall. John also spoke about how he and Daryl first wrote the song ‘She’s Gone’ in only 5 hours, which ended up becoming one of their biggest hits among many others that followed.
When approaching new material John was happy to share that he still records the same way he did 30 years ago, even to this day — which undoubtedly shows true musicianship and a familiar and honest method that he’s used throughout his whole music career.
In one of the chapters of ‘Change of Seasons’ John mentions the time he had a conversation with Madonna regarding their difference in opinions about MTV and the influence it had on their music careers at the time. So what exactly did Madonna say? You will have to read the book to find out!
The audience at Barnes & Noble were also treated with a special performance from John who performed an acoustic set of his favorite songs including ‘For Me and My Gal’ by Al Jolson as well ‘Crazy Eyes’ from the Hall & Oates album, ‘Bigger Than Both of Us’.
As a follow up from a recent announcement, John let everybody in the audience know that the Hall & Oates and Tears for Fears concerts (which were recently postponed) would definitely be rescheduled for the near future and to stay tuned for the new dates.
Be sure to check out this amazing book, which is a definite must read for those who want to know the history of Hall & Oates and some other highlights about John Oates interesting and musical life.
