Inside The Creative World of Italian Video Editor Shari Thakar
Shari Thakar is a video-editor in Los Angeles. Her mother is Italian, and her father is Indian. She was born and raised in London and by her 21st birthday, she moved to the United States to pursue a career in Hollywood. She studied filmmaking at the University of Creative Arts, in Surrey. Soon after, she became an assistant editor in Soho, working and assisting in commercials for multiple companies, including McDonalds and Cadbury’s Eggs.
Thakar has always had a passion for film, and storytelling. When she was 15 years old, she took media studies as a class, and fell in love with editing. Since then, she wanted to pursue the idea of telling stories in a visual way. After working as an assistant editor, she moved to California to pursue screenwriting. She graduated from the New York Film Academy with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2016. After graduating, she decided to combine both her passion for writing and editing, and worked on a couple of short films which she wrote and edited herself.
Once COVID unfolded, Thakar pushed through a stagnant industry by acquiring various editing jobs. She got an editing job with Manolo Vergara, an influencer who started a cooking channel and also edited cooking tutorials on a weekly basis. During the pandemic, Thakar also worked for an insurance company called CoreLogic, wherein she would edit 50 videos at a time, and under short-term deadlines. At this post, she learned to edit quickly, skillfully, and with intense attention to detail.
Thakar has worked on a few indie projects, such as music videos and small interviews. Her edits have also been featured on the Walmart website, as well as the EKO website. By the end of 2021, Thakar was asked to edit for Netflix TUDUM for some behind the scenes content on a project called “Just Browsing.” She was hired as an editor, and subsequently became the lead editor for the project. After this, she worked as the lead editor on an independent feature film called “Slant Streets.”
Thakar has edited trailers for documentaries and movies, some of which are featured on Amazon Prime. She has also worked for companies such as Kevin Hart’s Production Company, DeFiance Media, and content for Youtube and instagram.
Thakar’s favorite films are coming-of-age movies, and romcoms. She edits every day.
