In a day and age, where a lot of real vocalists and songwriters seem to be getting scarcer by the day, it is always refreshing to come across the ones who really stand out in the crowd. Last year, I had the chance to check out the amazing vocals of LIZZART in an intimate set she performed at The Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, and she was truly amazing. I recently caught up with her, to find out about her latest work and what made her become a singer. Here is what she had to share:

It’s so great catching up with you again, LIZZART. Let’s talk about your introduction into music and when you first started singing:

I first got into music when I was about 4 or 5 years old. My mom discovered that I was quite the little songwriter while eagerly waiting for her to get me out of the bathtub. Growing impatient, I wrote a whole song about it. Soon after, my world opened up — I started taking voice lessons, competing in vocal competitions, and so on!

Who were some of your influences and inspirations growing up?

I grew up in a household very much filled with Motown and Pop music. Some of my best, most vivid memories involve dancing around with my family to The Temptations, The Supremes, Jackson 5 (plus a whole lot of Michael Jackson, of course), The Commodores, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Spice Girls, and many more! Beyond music, being outside was a huge inspiration for me. I loved climbing trees, swimming, running around, and embracing my inner fairy self.

What has been one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned about yourself over the years being in the entertainment industry?

The biggest lesson I have learned so far from being in this industry is to stay GROUNDED and ROOTED in you. I have been told that I’m not a good business unless I lose 30lbs or that I’ll have a hard time “making it” because of the type of songs I write. There’s a whole lot of noise out here. At the end of the day, I believe in me and put my whole heart into what I do. And that, to me, is success.

Tell us about your new music:

It’s funny because the music I’ve been releasing lately mirrors what’s happening in my life in real time. My songs have this uncanny way of guiding me, offering solutions to problems I didn’t even realize I had — almost like they’re one step ahead of me! I’m really excited about these current releases. Being such a lover girl, each song represents a different stage of understanding and navigating love.

What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career so far?

One of the biggest highlights of my career has been the opportunity to work alongside some incredible musicians and producers who have truly elevated my life and made me a better artist. From Grammy award-winning and world-renowned percussionist Arturo Stable to Grammy-nominated producers like Jake Carmona and Magic, and the most badass multi-instrumentalist Jara Harris, to some of the best players to come out of the Philly music scene — each of them has played a crucial role in my artist development.

If you had a chance to work alongside anybody who would that be?

If I had a chance to work alongside anybody, it would have to be Ms. Sade or Sting. I adore artists who are so uniquely themselves and have crafted their own unique sound, staying true to their craft and in their own lane. There’s no BS with them.

If you could tell your younger self who was dreaming of being a singer something really important you have learned along the way, what would that be?

You are enough. Music is something that is with you your whole life. It will never leave because certain successes don’t happen, or certain people don’t work out. Music is you!

What other projects do you have coming up?

I plan to release a few more singles and eventually an EP! Also — I was featured in a documentary called “The Artist Body” that will be available to the public in a few weeks.

What is your best piece of advice for aspiring artists?

Surround yourself with people that are better than you. Create community. Adapt and evolve. You’ll be just fine 💚
