An Interview With The Beautiful And Talented Keana Marie
I recently caught up with actress Keana Marie who just featured on an episode of Criminal Minds on CBS -and will next be seen on the Netflix series ‘Huge In France’ -followed by the movie ‘Hummingbird’ in 2019. In an industry that can often make or break you as a person, it is nice to see such a young actress like Keana Marie handle the highs and lows of the entertainment industry in such a positive way -while at the same time, still making time for herself and others. In this interview, we asked her about her very first acting job, as well as some of her inspirations growing up. Here is what she had to say:
Hi Keana! When did you first get into acting and performing?
Hi Amber. Phew! Straight out of the womb! Just kidding! I have always been performing, but I didn’t really start “seriously” acting till I was about 17.
Who were some of your influences growing up?
Well my parents were always behind a lens, so I would often be in front of the camera a good bit -but then I’d also borrow my dad’s video camera and walk around my neighborhood making films. I would make horrors, comedies, documentaries, you name it. As far as influential actors, I loveeeeed Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Heath Ledger. The list goes on and on!
What do you remember the most about your first serious acting job? Was it nerve wracking?
The connection we all made on set -the laughs, the cries and yes, it was quite nerve wracking! Suddenly you’re like “Okay I got the job, now I need to perform!” You think the audition is the hard part, but once you actually “get” the role -that’s when the nerves really start kicking in for me -but those nerves are good though! They are a reminder that you can actually feel things, which gives you something to work with. Thankfully, I had the most delightful director who made the environment so comfortable and really made sure to keep an open line of communication. I felt zero pressure, so thank you Noah Debonis!
What has been one of your favorite role to play so far?
I can’t talk about it as of yet, but all I can say is -’Hummingbird’!
What do you like to do in your down time? Also, what have you learned the most about this business?
I like to freestyle. I dance around my house (and behold the most basic LA answer) -hiking, yoga and traveling. The thing I’ve learned the most about this business, is that hard work, drive and persistence really pays off and that patience is key.
How do you balance relationships and life in such a hectic industry?
By staying true to myself and making time for others -while also knowing when to set boundaries to make time for yourself and your craft.
What are you currently working on or have coming up?
Actually, I was just on an episode of Criminal Minds -then I have a Netflix series coming up in January called ‘Huge In France’. I will also be in the film ‘Hummingbird’ coming out in 2019.
Best advice for up and coming artists?
My best advice is be easy on yourself. I know as artists, we can be our hardest critics and doubts flood in, but just stick to it! Careers don’t happen overnight (for most at least). Don’t compare yourself to others and follow your own path. It’s not easy, but just enjoy the journey!
