An Interview With Mariah Carey Doll Creator, Ian Timothy

We recently caught up with Ian Timothy, a talented doll designer from the Philippines, who also happens to be the creator of the (unofficial) but amazing Mariah Carey Doll! We asked him about the process of creating the doll, some of his favorite moments and what other designs he has in the works for this year. Here is what he had to share:

Hi Ian, so great to meet you! Please give us an intro as to when you first got into the doll/Barbie designing industry:

First of all, I am not into Barbie dolls! I have been a Batman and DC action figure collector since I was 4 years old — and I never even have an interest in dolls before lol. It’s just that my love for Mariah Carey made me decide to make a custom doll of her!

Last 2018 I was diagnosed with depression and only Mariah’s music could help save me and get me through. I also wanted to find another interesting hobby at that time, so I searched for celebrity dolls on google and I noticed that celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Shakira all had their own official dolls. I wondered why Mariah didn’t have a doll, so because I love her so much, I envisioned what it would look like, if she had her own official doll.
