We recently caught up with French singer and writer Julia Paris to talk about her introduction into the music world, her influences growing up and her upcoming projects. Here is what she had to share:

Hi Julia, first of all, it’s awesome to meet you. Let’s dive into your musical beginning and background. When did you first realize you wanted to be in music?

When I was a child we listened to a lot of music and I always grew up surrounded by French songs but also rock, country and pop! At the beginning I mainly wanted to write songs, it was only later, that I decided to sing.

Who were some of your influences growing up?

French artists Joe Dassin, Jacques Brel, Françoise Hardy and Michel Berger but also John Denver, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald… There are too many to name!

Lucas Carton, Paris, June 21, 2021.

What do you remember the most about your very first gig/performance and where was it?

My first performance as a singer was on a barge in Paris. The room was quite small but full. I remember the discomfort of other artists who were afraid to go on stage. Fortunately, I didn’t have an issue with it, I just had the desire to sing and present my songs! Otherwise, the first time that I touched the boards was during the premiere of my musical show “Edith Piaf: entre France et Amérique” which I had written and produced and was performed at the Comédie des Champs Elysées, Avenue Montaigne in 2017. A great adventure!

What has been your favorite gig so far that you have played?

They are all different but a memory that is particularly dear to me is during a concert that I gave at the Citadel of Saint Tropez. I was on stage accompanied only by my composer and guitarist Yacine Azzegagh and we played music for 45 minutes acoustically. When we went backstage behind the scenes, the technicians applauded us! It had been a long time since they had seen a singer on stage without an EQ or without a safety net!

If there was anybody that you had the chance to work with, who would that be and why?

Celine Dion! I find that she is a mastery of the show with an extraordinary voice. She also manages to convey so many emotions during her performances.

What other projects do you have coming up?

I finished writing my first novel this year and I plan to publish it on Amazon early next year. It is a new adventure which brought me back to writing, which is my first love!

What are some of the most positive words you live by when it comes to life and approaching everything as best as possible?

Turn problems into opportunities! This is my mantra: things are not always what we expect them to be, but it is up to us to take them in a positive way!
