Like many other talented multi-hyphenated professionals in the motion picture industry, Amelia O’Loughlin’s skills and successes span far and wide. Is she a dancer? Yes, she trained with the infamous Rambert Dance School, performed at the London 2012 Olympics and most recently danced with Lily James in in Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again! Is she an entrepreneur? Yes! She founded and artistically directed Stone’s Throw Theatre Company, touring her directorial and literary debut at London theaters, and receiving superb reviews from London’s critics.
Is she an actress? Absolutely, and acting is where she most notably excels. She’s portrayed some of the most interesting women and challenging characters the stage has seen; including Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire for which Amelia was dubbed “mesmerizing” as she drew in the crowds; she fearlessly took to the stage in the role of Nurse Ratched in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. However, the silver screen is where Amelia is headed. When this woman sets out to do something: write a play, direct a company, win the hearts of her audience, or shine on a film set, she does it!!
While this is only the start of what we know will be a magical and immeasurably successful career, Amelia’s worked on a myriad of film projects. Two of her favorite jobs have been Holmes & Watson (2018) for which she worked opposite Will Ferrell and John C. Riley, and Solo: A Star Wars Story, directed by Ron Howard and produced by globally acclaimed Lucas films and Walt Disney Pictures, where Amelia performed closely with the main cast as Emilia Clarke’s body double.
Amelia’s career started on the stage as a dancer, yet she’s been riveting audiences as an actress as early as 2011 when she was scouted for every actor’s dream venue: the legendary Edinburgh Fringe Festival, by former contemporary theater company ‘Swish Theatre’. Amelia passionately embraced the lead role of Claire with confidence and ease, displaying her natural talent in the debut of Soul Searching.
She’s since worked with practitioners across the world, truly encompassing the training and skill required to thrive in show business. She’s studied Shakespeare at the English Theatre Company of Barcelona, and willfully took on the role of Hermia in their stage production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She’s flown to Berlin, New York City and Los Angeles to study the works of Adler, Strasberg, Meisner and most significantly Batson. While studying with the latter — the “method mother to the stars” -Amelia honed her skills in screen acting, learning from and sharing Nicole Kidman and Oprah Wifrey’s acting coach: Susan Batson. She immersed herself in Chekhov and Stanislavski when working towards her BA Honors at The University of Leeds: a “red brick university” (equivalent to Ivy League), where she obtained the highest grade: 1st Class. Her tenacity and drive to succeed as an actress has grown with each right turn, every new chapter and extraordinary achievement. During Amelia’s training in NYC and LA, she has caught the attention of many showbiz professionals, with offers of representation and management from both coasts (NY & LA) and offers of work in TV & film, including a couple of lead roles in independent features, the sky is the limit for this multi-talented international star!
